New publication, with colleagues from the Department of Water Resources and Drinking Water at Eawag and collaborators from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, on the use of microfluidics, in combination with optical microscopy and X-ray spectroscopy, to investigate arsenic retention from zerovalent iron-based water treatment in Environmental Science & Technology.

Bacterial biofilms are found in many porous materials. Dorothee Kurz's paper is now published in Proceedings of the National Academic of Sciences. In collaboration with colleagues from Princeton University, we show that the competition between hydrodynamics and microbial growth governs the opening and closing of preferential flow paths.

The project IRRIWAM, led by Dr. Sandra Pool (SEP Group), showed that irrigation technology is crucial. It contributes more than climate change to how much water evaporates and groundwater accumulates.This project has been funded through the World Food System Center (Competitive Center of ETH Zurich) with the economical support from Coop. Ishaan Markale's paper on the control of liquid-liquid mixing on liquid-solid reactions such as adsorption in porous media, published in Transport in Porous Media.

Andres Velasquez's paper, with collaborators at the University of Rennes, on the control of phases saturation on fluid flow velocities in porous media, published in Geophysical Research Letter.

A review on how pore-scale processes control biomineralization and suggestions on how to tame it published in Reviews in Environmental Science and Biotechnology. This has been a collaboration with Jen Nguyen (University of British Columbia) and Dani Or (Desert Research Institute).
